I was admitted as a solicitor in 1969 and practiced as a partner, manging partner then charman of partners of the Perth office of a firm that became part of Minter Ellison, a large Australian national law firm.  I retired from the firm in 1998 to practice as a barrister.

My practice ranges over the transactional taxes, such as stamp duties, CGT, GST and income tax, corporate, commercial and property law, and equity, trusts and succession.

I have a particular interest in trusts and equity, and have published and delivered many papers on aspects of trusts with emphasis on the family discretionary trust.

These skills enable me to advise on and implement corporate and family structuring and restructuring and succession planning. Any such planning must work for the family or corporate group not only for the present but be flexible enough for future needs and be tax effective.

Generational change and introduction of external management and equity can present difficult legal, business and personal issues that need to be addressed sympathetically but professionally.

My experience as a director of listed and unlisted companies and not for profit organisations gives my work concerning corporate governance some real world experience.

Although my practice is mainly advisory I appear in the Superior Courts on taxation appeals, applications in trust matters, including for charitable trusts, schemes of arrangement and other corporations law matters

I am the editor of Duties Legislation Western Australia; Thomson Reuters loose-leaf
This publication, which is updated three times a year, is designed to provide a comprehensive resource for experienced practitioners with ease of accessibility for those less experienced with the practice and procedures under the Duties Act and the Taxation Administration Act.
